U.S. Breast Cancer Rates Continue To Decline
September 26, 2007

Boston (dBTechno) - According to a new report from the American cancer Society (ACS), breast cancer death rates continues to decline.
The new report found that the risk of dying from the disease dropped by 2 percent from a year ago.
80 percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer can live 10 years later.
Because of fewer women taking hormone therapy, the report noted a sharp decline in breast cancer diagnoses.
Between 2001 and 2004, the number of diagnoses also fell about 4 per cent a year.
The report found that while breast cancer rates continue to decline in caucasian women, rates remain steady among black, Hispanic and Asian women.
“It could be a variety of factors. It could be lifestyle factors. But I think it has a lot to do with access to health care,” said Lynda Solomon with the ACS.
“Taken together, this report highlights the remarkable gains we’ve made in the fight against breast cancer,” said John R. Seffrin, Ph.D., chief executive officer of the American Cancer Society. “But it also puts into focus the challenge before us: to close the gap so all Americans can reap the benefits equally, and to ensure that no American woman faces an increased risk of dying from breast cancer because of her race or ethnicity or because of lack of access to quality care.”
