December 1, 2008

According to a new report released by UN agencies, more mothers and children need to have access to HIV testing.Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new report released by UN agencies, more mothers and children need to have access to HIV testing.

The UN agencies stressed in this new report that it is very important to have women get tested for HIV during pregnancy.

If they are tested, it can allow antiretroviral drugs to go to work must faster to help prevent the transmission of theĀ  disease.

According to the report 60% of women in countries in southern Africa went through HIV testing during pregnancy.

This is way up compared to the 33% fho went through the testing in the year 2004.

In South Africa alone, the use of antiretroviral drugs was up by 57% this year compared to 15% back in 2004.

In other parts of Africa though this type of success was not seen as the numbers did not rise quite as much unfortunately.

According to the report, 2 million kids were living with HIV in 2007.

The report was released by UNICEF, UNAIDS, the World Health Organization, and UNFPA.
