Released: April 28, 2009

For those looking for a decent horror flick to rent on Blu-ray this weekend, The Uninvited may just be something to take at as it released this week.

To be quite honest, I will make it clear right off the bat that this is a very average horror film in every way. That is not a bad thing in a sense as it is still a very entertaining horror film, just remember to keep your expectations low.

The film comes from the producers who brought you both Disturbia, as well as The Ring, each enjoying success in theaters and on DVD.

It is based on a film called A Tale of Two Sisters, starring two sisters, Anna and Alex, played nicely by Emily Browning and Arielle Kebbel.

Anna is having a rough time as she returns home after spending some time receiving treatment following the death of her mother.

She ends up going back home with her sister and father, only to find that her dad has a new girlfriend, Rachael (Elizabeth Banks).

Needless to say, from here things start to unravel as they learn more about the past of this new friend of their dad’s, with plenty of scares and entertainment to follow.

As stated, it is not all that creative, nor does it do anything that will really allow you to remember it. It is still very entertaining though and would make for a great date movie.

The video quality for this Blu-ray release is actually quite strong, far superior to what we see in the DVD transfer. The use of colors, and black levels does a great job here of really setting a chilling atmosphere throughout.

The same can be said for the audio, which is presented in a Dolby TrueHD track. My only complaint with the audio is the fact that it doesn’t seem to have the power and impact with the use of the subwoofer that I wanted it to in a few scenes.

All of the special features here come straight from the DVD release, with the only difference being they are in HD.

The extras consist of a nice making-of featurette called Unlocking the Uninvited as well as a set of deleted scenes and an alternate ending.

For a PG-13 horror flick, The Uninvited is worth a rental on Blu-ray if you want a decent popcorn flick this weekend.
