Released: April 28, 2009

The Uninvited has hit the DVD format, in hopes of garnering some attention from those looking for a good new horror movie to check out over the weekend.

To be quite honest, I will make it clear right off the bat that this is a very average horror film in every way. That is not a bad thing in a sense as it is still a very entertaining horror film, just remember to keep your expectations low.

The film comes from the producers who brought you both Disturbia, as well as The Ring, each enjoying success in theaters and on DVD.

It is based on a film called A Tale of Two Sisters, starring two sisters, Anna and Alex, played nicely by Emily Browning and Arielle Kebbel.

Anna is having a rough time as she returns home after spending some time receiving treatment following the death of her mother.

She ends up going back home with her sister and father, only to find that her dad has a new girlfriend, Rachael (Elizabeth Banks).

Needless to say, from here things start to unravel as they learn more about the past of this new friend of their dad’s, with plenty of scares and entertainment to follow.

As stated, it is not all that creative, nor does it do anything that will really allow you to remember it. It is still very entertaining though and would make for a great date movie.

The special features on this DVD release are pretty sub-par to be quite honest, as the only extra with any meat to it is the making-of featurette called Unlocking the Uninvited.

The only other real extras here include a set of deleted scenes, as well as an alternate ending.

The Uninvited is one of those horror movies that will certainly appeal to the teen crowd, especially with the PG-13 rating. As stated, go into it with low expectations and you will get some enjoyment out of this, worth a rental.

Movie: 7.4

Not a great horror film, but definitely entertaining for what it is worth.Video: 8.5

I was a bit disappointed with the black levels, good detail and clarity though.Audio: 8.7

The way in which the audio track was done here does a good job of setting a nice atmosphere for a horror flick.Extras: 7.2

A few extras, the making-of featurette is good. Not much else though.Final Score: 7.6
