Microsoft to Buy Virtualization Company Calista

Boston (dbTechno) – Microsoft has plans to purchase the San Jose-based Calista Technologies, a virtualization company, as part of their bigger plan to gain a larger piece of the corporate technology market.

The acquisition by Microsoft is a big one as it is part of a larger Microsoft strategy to get deeper into the virtualization market. Virtualization allows companies to use software and hardware in ways which best suit their particular business.

Calista specializes in network stability for virtualized computer desktops. This means that the computing takes place on a remote server.

Microsoft had to delay their key server-virtualization technology known as HyperV not too long ago. This allows competitors such as VMware Inc. to get a jump in the market.

Microsoft is now on pace though to get HyperV ready within six months of the release of Windows Server 2008.
