Sharp, Hitachi Investigated for DS Screen Price Fixing

Sharp and Hitachi are currently being accused and investigated for price-fixing profitable LCD screens and touch screens for the highly-popular Nintendo DS handheld gaming system.Boston (dbTechno) – Sharp and Hitachi are currently being accused and investigated for price-fixing profitable LCD screens and touch screens for the highly-popular Nintendo DS handheld gaming system.

Investigators from the Japanese government went to the offices of both companies in a joint operation to try and find proof that they had a scam in place to keep the price of the DS screens artificially high.

The idea is to fix the prices and make it appear that they cost more than they do, this allowed Sharp and Hitachi to make a much larger profit off of their deal with Nintendo.

Hitachi and Sharp has spokesmen come out and make statements to the press, stating that they are under investigation for the charges.

With the raid of their offices by the Japanese Fair Trade commission, it is clear that the companies most likely have something they were trying to hide.

Nintendo has yet to comment on the matter.
