Nokia Signs On With Microsoft Silverlight For Mobile Devices

Washington (dbTechno) – Nokia has revealed plans that include them using Microsoft’s Silverlight cross-platform browser plug-in. Nokia has signed a deal with Microsoft to use Silverlight on their S60 smartphones, as well as other devices and internet tablets.

This is a big move for Nokia as it is going to allow their developers to create new, interactive applications for their devices through the Silverlight platform.

Senior vice president of Nokia stated “Today’s consumers want easy access to tightly integrated services and data on any device. Nokia’s software strategy is based on cross-platform development environments, enabling the creation of rich applications across the Nokia range.”

Microsoft sees this as a huge victory as well, especially to help get the Silverlight platform more broadly accepted.

Silverlight will be ready for developers on the S60 smart phone this year, while it will work on the Nokia Series 40 devices and internet tablets probably in 2009.
