Dextre Fully Assembled, Ready To Be Attached To ISS

The new Canadian-built space robot Dextre has been fully assembled by astronauts, and is now ready to be attached to its home on the International Space Station.New York (dbTechno) – The new Canadian-built space robot Dextre has been fully assembled by astronauts, and is now ready to be attached to its home on the International Space Station.

Astronauts will work on Tuesday to attach Dextre to the International Space Station for the first time.

This comes after a spacewalk on Monday carried out by Richard Linnehan and Robert Behnken. They added a couple of cameras as well as a tool belt to Dextre to help it perform various tasks.

This will be no easy feat though, as Dextre weighs well over 3,000 pounds and is 12-feet tall. It has 11-foot arms as well.

Astronauts stated they will use the mechanical arm of the ISS to attach Dextre to the U.S. lab Destiny.

The 16-day Endeavour mission is going very smoothly thus far, with the five spacewalks scheduled almost complete as they also continue to work to prepare for the remaining part of the Japanese space laboratory Kibo to arrive in May.
