Smartphone Sales Growing Thanks To iPhone

Boston (dbTechno) – According to analysts at the Smartphone Summit, smartphone sales are growing much faster than overall mobile phone sales, thanks in great part to the Apple iPhone.

According to M: Metrics analyst Mark Donovan, the number of people with smartphones in the U.S> doubled within the last year to 14.6 million.

Many of the analysts believe that a major reason for this sales boost is because of the Apple iPhone, and its ability to get a smartphone in the hands of consumers who, in the past, would have never considered purchasing one.

Since the launch of the Apple iPhone, the device has managed to sell 3.7 million units.

Apple hopes to increase these numbers greatly though, selling 10 million iPhones this year.

With millions of smartphones on the market, it is clear that the iPhone is not even close to being responsible for all of the sales.

What it is doing though is raising awareness of the average mobile phone user that a smartphone may not just be for someone who wants to walk around with a Blackberry. With the added applications built-in, and new apps coming, the iPhone will likely continue to push smartphones.
