AT&T Poised To Charge Heavy Broadband Users Extra

Boston (dbTechno) – AT&T Inc. is considering charging extra money for consumers to are heavy broadband users. This has been reported and rumored for months as AT&T, along with other Internet service providers across the U.S. try to deal with heavy use of their networks by some users.

According to AT&T, the top 5% of their DSL customers use 46% of the total bandwith, which the company does not appear very happy about to say the least.

In a statement, AT&T has announced that it is basically inevitable that they are going to have to move towards a usage-based model which charges customers based on their level of usage.

There is no word yet on exactly how much the fees are going to cost or anything of that nature.

This is clearly going to be going after users of P2P networks though who download and upload large files around the clock.
