Washington (dbTechno) – U.S. District Judge George A. O’Toole Jr. has decided to keep the gag order against 3 MIT students in place. These MIT students have been found guilty of hacking into the MBTA electronic payment system.
This electronic payment system is used by the MBTA to handle all of the payments from customers, and if hacked, could allow people to add money onto cards for subway rides, etc.
There have been many who have come forward to defend the MIT students, including the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), but nothing has worked to this point.
The EFF has gone as far as to say that it is unconstitutional to keep the students from being able to talk about what they have discovered.
On top of his decision to keep the gag order in place, the judge is also seeking more information from the MIT students.
The information includes a report which they were going to turn into their MIT professor. They received an A for their research according to reports.
The next step is another hearing set for next week, with the restraining order being on the table this time.
