FCC Approves Use Of White Spaces, What Is Next Step?

This week, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has agreed to allow the use of white spaces, so what is the next step?.<br /> .........Washington (dbTechno) – This week, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has agreed to allow the use of white spaces, so what is the next step?

White spaces are going to be made available as the move to digital TV is complete next February.

Many TV and radio broadcasters were against the approval of white spaces as they feared that it would interfere with their signals.

The FCC did not agree with them though as they sided with tech giants such as Microsoft and Google to vote 5-0 in favor of approving the use of whit espaces.

So the next step is to actually figure out how the white spaces and be used, and how they can change our lives.

The general belief is that white spaces are going to be used to create high-speed Internet access across the U.S.

It will bring broadband hot spots to areas that have never had Internet before even available.

On top of that, it could also be used for home networking as well, replacing the need for Wi-Fi altogether.

Big questions remain though over how fast it will be, the bandwith, etc.

Experts believe that the cost is likely going to right on par with other services, and may actually be faster than many cable and DSL lines.

With the ability for white spaces to be used nationwide, the sky is the limit.
