iPhone App Review
Developer: Smule
Price: $0.99

The App Store is beginning to become a great place to pick up some music applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  One of the latest applications to be released is Smule Ocarina.  Needless to say, if you ever wanted to be able to play the Zelda theme on your iPhone, here’s your chance!

Smule Ocarina comes in at a very reasonable price point of $0.99 and is an absolute steal considering the enjoyment you get out of it.

This is basically an app that will turn your iPhone into a full-out Ocarina.  Once you launch the app, you will see 4 circles on your touch-screen, to show your notes.  These can be held in all different ways.  You can hold down all 4 at once with your fingers, alternate, etc.

You then play the notes by blowing into the microphone of the iPhone.  The entire way the app is set up is really innovative as it truly feels like you are playing an instrument.

There is definitely a learning curve here, as you truly have to take the time to learn the notes and how to play everything.  After a good 3 or 4 hours of practice though I had the Zelda theme going strong.

The app does not stop there though, as it also allows you to let your music be heard around the world.  The app uses your location to broadcast your sound around the world.

When you hit the globe logo, you can see a globe and listen to other people playing.  It is very cool to go global and see what people are playing.  If you like their music, you can click the heart symbol.  If you think they stink, you can move on to the next person and see where they are playing from, and listen in.

The only thing missing which I would love to see in an update is the ability to record what you are playing.

Smule Ocarina is a must-buy app on the iPhone for music lovers.  The level of creativity it gives the users is truly astonishing.

Final Score: 9.0 dbTechno Highly Recommended!
