Wii Review
Publisher: Ubisoft Entertainment
Developer: Ubisoft Entertainment
Released: November 16, 2008

Ubisoft has come out with what is the best snowboarding experience to date on the Nintendo Wii with Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip.  The game is extremely enjoyable throughout on many levels, especially making great use of the Wii Balance Board.

It has been a long-time coming for a developer to really use the Wii Balance Board in a way that makes it more enjoyable than the standard control-scheme.

That is exactly what Ubisoft has done though with this release, which has been tailored to the Wii perfectly with great attention to detail.

Usually when you have a multi-platform release it is the Wii gamers who end up getting the shaft with a game which has graphics which are basically lazy versions of what was seen on the PS3 and Xbox 360.  This is not a port by any means though as the game has a very unique look and feel to it on the Wii with great artistry, colors, etc.

You have a couple of options with this game, as you can control it with just the Wii Remote, or by using the Wii Remote and Balance Board.  The best way to control it to be honest and the most enjoyable way is with the Wii Remote and Balance Board combination, as it is very enjoyable, but not quite as touchy as the Wii Remote.

The controls with just the Wii Remote are also fun as you can tilt the remote from side to side in order to steer, while you can increase speed, do tricks, etc. with all of the buttons included.

Using the Wii Remote allows you to control your snowboarder with more prescision overall, as both options are actually very well-implemented and fun.

The great thing about the various game control methods is that both of them are very enjoyable and can easily be picked-up and played at any time by just about anyone.  The controls are simple in that you can easily pull of tricks and carve down a mountain after trying it out only once or twice.

This is a great thing as Ubisoft has created a game that you can play with a group of people just by jumping on the Balance Board. For those who want more from it, there is enough depth here as well to keep experienced gamers coming back.

The game will have you in control of a snowboarder on a variety of mountains, with plenty of nice effects and attention to detail.

From here you can take part in a variety of trick contests, speed races, as well as other little modes that the developers have added in.

All of these are very enjoyable as you can progress through the game to unlock new areas, more gear, tricks, and all of that good stuff.

Though there is no online mode, you can play the game co-op, or with competitions of up to 4-players at once.

Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip is a great release on the Nintendo Wii and is one which casual gamers are going to have a blast with whether they use the Wii Remote or the Balance Board.  Highly-recommended as a great game for the holidays!

The soundtrack fits the game perfectly, and the sound effects are very crisp.

Gameplay: 8.5
The game is fun whether you play with the Wii Remote or Balance Board.

Replay Value: 8.2
The lack of an online mode is disappointing, but the single-player game is deep and there are nice multi-player additions offline.
