Publisher: SCEA

Players: 1-32

Killzone 2 is the most highly-anticipated PS3 game to be release tod ate in the history of the console. The game ha sa very notable past dating back to that famous E3 trailer that put the hype for the PS3 up to an unforseen level. With years past, the actual game has finally been released, and it has more than lived up to the hype.

Killzone 2 follows the events from the first Killzone, picking right up with the story as the battle between ISA defenders and the Helghast continues.

The way in which the story of the gam eis told is done with amazing cinematic flair. You will be treated to some fantastic moments as you get to see very imaginative worlds,

Killzone 2 is all about two things, atmosphere and gameplay. The way in which the whole atmosphere is set here with Killzone 2 is a testament to the developer Guerilla.

The visuals here on the PS3 are stunning and are some of the best this generation consoles has seen to date.

Killzone 2 packs some incredible special effects with startling detail, texture-work, and artistic flair.

There really is no way to describe the atmosphere or visuals of Killzone 2, but if I had to sum it up in one word, it would be chaos.

The game is chaotic, as you will truly feel as if you are in the middle of this enormous war, with bullets whizzing by your head, things flying above, etc.

These are not pretty worlds either, these areas you will be fighting are dark, gritty, and very much so old looking, further adding to this intense atmosphere, showing that the future may not be all that shiny.

The same level of detail has gone into the way in which the gameplay was put together. It is one thing to have a beautiful game, but it is an entirely different thing to also have it play out very smoothly.

Killzone 2 manages to accomplish both of these things as the game has some fantatic controls, with a great flow to them. You will find yourself having to use all of your surroundings to your ability as you use everything in your arsenal to survive.

These will include you using rocket launchers, sniper rifles, grenates, among other things.

The single-player campaign consists of 10 missions in total, but this is not easy short game to plow through. This is thanks to the hefty A.I. in the game that has some very intelligent enemies to try and take on.

Even beyond just the standard run-and-gun shooter style, the game mixes things up with various other key moments, such as jumping in a tank to do some damage.

Once you do actually get through the single-player campaign, you will find yourself entering into a whole new world with the online multiplayer.

The online aspect allows you to jump into some huge battles where you can play with 32 players at once.

There are some great online game modes here that will appeal to all styles of gamers. You can take part in team matches, all out survival modes, etc.

In order to move up in class and such online, you are going to have to put some serious time in and hone your skills.

When you combine the single-player and multiplayer experience, you can’t help but be impressed with what Killzone 2 has to offer in terms of true value. The developer Guerilla was not about to rest in terms of creating only a great single-player or multiplayer affair, instead they have created the total package.

Killzone 2 is the killer app that PS3 fans have been waiting for, and for those who do not yet own a PS3, this is a reason to go out and pick one up! The game is extremely polished and sets a new benchmark for the first-person shooter genre. I am humbled, Guerilla did what no one thought they could do, they actually topped all expectations with Killzone 2.

Graphics: 9.5 An unbelievable looking game, one of the best ever!

Audio: 9.2 A great atmosphere is set with crisp sound effects creating an engrossing experience.

Gameplay: 8.8 The game plays very smoothly, fantastic A.I. as well.

Replay Value: 9.0 Single-player and multiplayer are very strong, online co-op of the single-player campaign is the only thing missing.

Final Score: 9.3

  • Nice graphics but……..Each Level is the same scenero over and over. Ending with infinate RESPAWNING AI..which is a cheap programming ploy when you run out of ideas.

GunPlay is fun but the game is dull with no climax or imagination. .

I love my Ps3 but I think this is the years biggest dissapointment.
