Boston (dbTechno) – April Fool’s Day has a lot of people worried this year due to the fact that it could be the day that the Conficker worm hits over 10 million computers.
As of right now, experts believe that the Conficker worm has the potential to hit around 10 million computers, with up to 15 million being possible.
This is due to the fact that these computers are already infected with the Conficker, only nobody knows it yet.
The Conficker worm was detected for the first time towards the end of 2008, and has managed to grow since then.
The worm virus works by infecting Microsoft Windows operating system files.
The computer world is clearly up in arms about this, and it is feared so much that Microsoft offered a $250,000 bounty to anyone who revealed who the inventor of it was.
The strange thing about this is that no one really knows what will happen of the Conficker worm actually activates on April Fool’s Day on all of these computers.
One thing many are afraid of though is that the creators of it will be able to gain access to credit card numbers, passwords, etc.
It could also allow the creators to gain access to web sites, and personal files.
With April Fool’s Day set to hit tomorrow, the Conficker worm could prove to be a major disaster, or just a big fat joke…we will have to wait and see.
