Rune Factory Frontier
Wii Review
Developer: Marvelous
Publisher: Xseed Games
Released: March 17, 2009
Rune Factory Frontier, developed by Marvelous and published by Xseed Games, is one heck of an addictive role-playing game that will surely appeal to its core audience.
Rune Factory Frontier is a very enjoyable open-ended RPG that basically allows you to do whatever you please, and enjoy the game however you wish.
For those of you who have never played a game in this series before, perhaps you have played Harvest Moon, as it is a bit like that.
If not, you are basically being thrown into an RPG that lets you control this main character who is saved by a girl, Mist.
You end up living in this small village where you will begin to do some very addictive things. One of the most addictive aspects of this is farming, similar to what you have experienced in Harvest Moon games, Animal Crossing, etc.
You farm to basically earn money, and build up your character skills so that you can go buy things, beat out your rivals, etc.
The way in which the game evolves keeps this very entertaining as you will have to try and learn how to plant different crops, build up experience through the different chores that you carry out, etc.
For those of you who are not big fans of farming, there is a lot more to do in the game as well as you will eventually be able to buy a sword, and start getting into the dungeons and combat areas.
The combat is actually a great deal of fun as you will be able to chain together attacks, cleaning out these areas where you will later be able to plant crops and such.
The story line evolves through all of this as well as with the more people you meet, dungeons you take part in, etc., the more you will learn.
I was very impressed with the way in which Rune Factory Frontier played, as I was very skeptical heading into it that the farming and such would bore me.
Over time though you will realize that this is one addictive and deep game, with the farming, combat, and everything else playing into it, making it a rather engrossing experience. For RPG fans, this is well worth checking out on the Nintendo Wii.
Graphics: 8.4 This is a very good-looking Wii game, with some great use of colors, animation, etc.
Audio: 8.2 Solid music and some nice sound effects, very well-done.
Gameplay: 8.0 Very well-designed, highly-addictive with the farming, action, etc.
Replay Value: 8.0 Very addictive, the game can go for a very long-time as long as you get into it.
Final Score: 8.2
