MySpace Mom Avoids Jail Time in Suicide Case

Boston (DbTechNo) – Lori Drew has been let off the hook by a judge in her bullying MySpace trial in which her actions resulted in a young girl committing suicide.

She had posed as a boy, Josh Evans on the popular social networking site, and allegedly bullied 13 year old Megan Meier until the young girl could take no more.

She allegedly did what she did because Megan had been harassing her own daughter.

Originally she was charged with a four-count indictment and convicted on 3 of them.

Drew could’ve spent up to 3 years in prison but U.S. District Judge George Wu overturned the jury decision.

The judge stated that he had no choice but to overturn the conviction, citing the web site privacy policy.

“You could prosecute pretty much anyone who violated terms of service,” he said.

Prosecutors have not stated whether or not they plan to appeal.
