Boston (DbTechNo) – It is being reported that up to 800 pages of the oldest Christian bible have been recovered and put online.
The manuscript is believed to be more than 1600 years old, but is missing approximately 600 pages of content.
Dr Scot McKendrick, head of Western manuscripts at the British Library, says that the document presents researchers with numerous new opportunities.
“This 1,600-year-old manuscript offers a window into the development of early Christianity and first-hand evidence of how the text of the Bible was transmitted from generation to generation,” he said.
Experts say that the bible gives people a chance to take a look into the earliest views of Christianity.
Parts of the bible had been housed in various parts of the world but have been put together and digitalized for all to see.
According to the British Library, the online book will allow for scholars to further study the “unique treasure.”
Visitors can go to http://www.codexsinaiticus.org if they want to read from the recovered pages.
