Boston (DbTechNo) – A law suit has been filed against Amazon dealing with the deletion of books from its Kindle library.
The suit has been brought against Amazon by high school student Justin D. Gawronski.
He alleges that Amazon deleted certain books by George Orwell entitled “1984″ and “Animal Farm” without giving due notice that they were planning on doing so.
Amazon says that they deleted the books after finding out that they were pirated in the first place.
“I thought that once purchased, the books were mine,” said the student.
He went on to say that he was working on a summer school project that was rendered useless when his books, previously paid for, vanished from his Kindle Reader.
The suit is requesting unspecified damages.
“Amazon.com had no more right to hack into people’s Kindles than its customers have the right to hack into Amazon’s bank account to recover a mistaken overpayment,” said lawyer Jay Edelson. “Technology companies increasingly feel that because they have the ability to access people’s personal property, they have the right to do so. That is 100 percent contrary to the laws of this country.”
