Mozilla Unblocks Microsoft Add-On for Firefox

Boston (DbTechNo) – It is being reported that Mozilla have now unblocked a Microsoft add-on for Firefox after it was initially believed that it caused a security risk.

Mozilla took steps to block the Microsoft add-on last Friday, after Microsoft warned users that if they had not upgraded using the MS09-054 IE patch then they were at risk of experiencing a software vulnerability.

The add-on in question was Microsoft’s .NET Framework Assistant add-on but the company has proven it not to be a security risk, thus Mozilla have unblocked it.

Another Microsoft add-on, called Windows Presentation Foundation has not been unblocked by Mozilla.

According to Mozilla people who had the add-on enabled before it was blocked will not have to re-enable it.

“We’re hard at work on improving the experience for (especially enterprise) users who wish to override the blocking of the WPF plugin before we remove it from the blocklist, and I’m working on a post to clarify the events of the past few days,” wrote Mike Shaver, Mozilla’s vice president of engineering. “We (especially I) appreciate your patience and support as we work to keep our users safe and comfortable with all the tools at our disposal.”
