One 5th of internet users are on Twitter

Boston (DbTechNo) – Despite many people not knowing what Twitter actually is, a new report finds that 1 5th of all internet users are on the popular service.

Twitter is the biggest microblogging service on the planet, allowing people to post 140 character messages to their Twitter page for all their followers to see.

Twitter is used by the every day person to tell their friends and followers what they are up too, and is becoming very popular with businesses as a form of advertising new products and services.

I myself have a Twitter page, and get the odd email to the effect that so and so is now following me on Twitter, but do I use the service? Definitely not!

A study by Pew Internet & America Life finds that up to 1 5th of internet users Tweet, numbers up from a study performed earlier this year.

The biggest jump in Twitterers by demographic was found to be in young people between 18 and 24 years of age.
