Vista Users Furious Over Windows 7 Reboot Glitch
Boston (DbTechNo) – The release of Windows 7 on October 22 has not gone as well as Microsoft hoped, due to problems that many Vista users are experiencing when attempting to upgrade.
Vista users flocked to the Microsoft support forum on Friday to voice their concerns, and Microsoft says that they are working on the problem.
Reports flooding the Microsoft support forum state that those Vista users upgrading to Windows 7, are having a hard time doing so, due to a never ending reboot issue.
They claim that the upgrade hangs up about 2 thirds of the way through, and then states that the upgrade has been unseccessful.
Upon rebooting the computer, the user is taken back to the Microsoft Windows loading screen, and the process repeats itself.
Microsoft engineers have waded into the forum to lend a helping hand, but they have a lot of work to do as many Vista users are ready to begin sending hate mail.
They have begun trying to find out what version of Vista people were previously using, to try to find a common link that could be the cause of the instalation problem.

I clean installed….no problems!
I’ve been using windows long enough to know that Upgrading is never a good idea. I know they say it’ll be easy, but just back up your stuff and format re-install. It’s the best way to clean out all that 3rd party junk anyways.
Man oh man; I had this *exact same problem* when my copy of VISTA tried to upgrade itself to Service Pack 1, a good year or more ago. (I have never actually upgraded VISTA due to fear of a repeat.) Lucky for me I didn’t have anything too important on the system, because the only “fix” turned out to be to reset the whole hard drive to its manufacturer’s state (wipe everything I’d added.)
That Microsoft is now having the same issue over a year later with a Windows 7 upgrade is — well, I’d say it’s breathtakingly unacceptable and lame, but then, that seems to pretty much be Microsoft’s modus operandi these days.
Often, virus and worm activity can damage the registry to the point of preventing a smooth upgrade install. Poorly written device drivers by third party’s can also cause trouble! Don’t be so quick to blame Microsoft!
