Boston (DbTechNo) – According to market research group NPD the video game industry is slumping in America.
In October, video game sales fell by an estimated 19% they say, numbers going the wrong way with Christmas on the way.
Last October, anything and everything related to video games was selling like hotcakes, but a year later, only $1.07 billion. dollars of revenue was reported.
As is common these days, the Nintendo Wii was the most popular item on peoples’ wish lists, followed by Nintendo’s new DS.
I myself did my part to help out the floundering industry, dashing out to purchase the latest Modern Warfare game which I have not been able to stop playing.
Analysts state that all is not bad however, as the Christmas holidays are without a doubt the best time of year for video game sales.
“Based on typical industry seasonality, the industry is on track to generate full-year revenues in the range of ($20 billion to $21 billion) in the U.S., which would put it just a bit below last year’s sales,” said NPD analyst Anita Frazier.
