Google Announces Automatic Captions for YouTube Videos

Boston (DbTechNo) – It is being reported that Google is planning to add automatic captions to YouTube videos for the hearing impaired.

Many able bodied users of the site will not be in favor of this new service, but for those who are deaf and or hearing impaired, it is a great idea.

Some uploaders do take the time to add captions to their vids, but the majority don’t, making it hard for hearing-impaired YouTube users to follow along with videos containing vocal attributes.

There is approximately 20 hours of video content uploaded to YouTube every minute, the majority of which lacks captioning.

To add captions to videos, Google is going to use their speech recognition software that they use with Google Voice.

Initially the service will only be available on a handful of partner channels, but as Google tweeks the service, they will open it up to more and more channels.
