Internet Users Beware of Fake Swine Flu Email

Boston (DbTechNo) – Internet users are being warned to be on the lookout for an email relating to swine flu which is actually a virus waiting to infect their PCs.

The email appears to be from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) but it is not, and if opened will unleash a Zeus Trojan virus.

Users who open the fake email, believing it to be real are then prompted to another web site, which contains the actual virus.

When the user clicks to download their “H1N1 Vaccine Profile Archive” they are actually downloading the virus, containing a key logger which tracks all their passwords typed on that specific computer.

“The Zeus botnet is making another attempt at stealing personal information this week, starting early in the morning of 1 December,” said Jamie Tomasello, abuse operations manager at messaging security company Cloudmark.

“However, most anti-virus vendors have updates that will mark the installer as malware, and one way to protect against it is to make sure that anti-virus software is up to date.”
