Boston (DbTechNo) – Today NASA will be launching a brand new infrared telescope into the atmosphere, with the mission of mapping the entire sky.
The goal of the mission is to uncover any hidden cosmic objects that maybe out there but not known of, and to attempt to detect asteroids and comets orbiting near to earth.
The Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (Wise) will be blasted into the air on the back of a Delta II rocket this morning if all goes according to plan.
An earlier attempt to launch the rocket was quashed when a problem with the rocket’s steering mechanism was identified.
“Mission managers have implemented a plan to completely resolve the anomaly,” NASA officials said in a statement.
The mission for the $320 million WISE telescope will last for 10 months,
