Boston (DbTechNo) – Since Apple opened their app store back in 2008, more than 3 billion downloads have been made by iPhone users.
The iPhone is by far the most popular cellphone in the world, making it easy to believe numbers recently released by Apple regarding download figures.
Apple themselves estimate that right now, more than 37 million devices are running their operating system, including up to 21 million iPhones.
Both the iPhone and iPod Touch are available in up to 77 different countries, and there are 20 different categories when it comes to applications one can download.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs released a statement today, in which he said: “Three billion applications downloaded in less than 18 months–this is like nothing we’ve ever seen before.. The revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”
Google are coming after Apple, preparing to launch their own smartphone dubbed Nexus One, only time will tell if they can compete with the big boy.
