Boston (DbTechNo) – Recent hacker attacks launched against US companies have been traced back to two schools in China.
Major corperations such as Google and some fortune 500 companies were hit by the internet attacks beginning in April and investigators have traced them to China.
The two schools being named as potential hosts to the hackers in question are Shanghai Jiaotong University and Lanxiang Vocational School.
Currently it is unclear if students at the schools were involved, or if the school’s IP addresses were used to redirect suspicion off of the actual people to blame.
A prof at one of the schools told the New York Times that he was not surprised that investigators had traced the attacks back to the schools.
“Actually students hacking into foreign Web sites is quite normal,” he stated.
“These students are at the top of their field, with the potential to solve the world’s most serious problems,” said Dr. Bill Poucher, ICPC executive director and professor of the Baylor University, in a statement earlier this month.
