Amazon, Microsoft Sign New Patent Agreement

Boston (DbTechNo) – Both Microsoft and Amazon have reportedly signed a patent deal that will enable the companies to share technology.

These are two of the biggest web sites on the internet in their given fields and their new deal will no doubtedly impact the internet for years to come.

The deal focuses on technology sharing, meaning that Microsoft will open up various aspects of its programming to benefit Amazon, pertaining to the Kindle Reader.

Amazon’s use of Linux-based servers is also part of the equasion, and the company will pay Microsoft an undisclosed dollar amount under the patent license agreement.

Microsoft made the news official in a statement posted yesterday.

“We are pleased to have entered into this patent license agreement with Amazon.com,” said Horacio Gutierrez, corporate vice president and deputy general counsel for Intellectual Property and Licensing at Microsoft. “Microsoft’s patent portfolio is the largest and strongest in the software industry, and this agreement demonstrates our mutual respect for intellectual property as well as our ability to reach pragmatic solutions to IP issues regardless of whether proprietary or open source software is involved.”
