Barnes & Noble Launch New Wi-Fi Nook

It is being reported that Barnes & Noble have slashed the price of their Nook e-book reader to $199 in an attempt to boost sales of the device.

The 3G model of the device will retail for $199, but a new version of the Nook with a Wi-Fi connection will debut at $149.

Barnes & Noble will now have 2 versions of their e-book reader, both of which priced below that of their rival Amazon’s Kindle which retails for more than $250.

The company has already begun accepting pre-orders for the new Nook, and it is expected to be ready for shipping to customers by the end of this week.

Speaking to PCWorld, Tony Astarita, vice president for digital products at Barnes & Noble says: “It’s targeted at someone who’s a solid reader but someone with Wi-Fi availability at home or outside the home and is not as mobile a traveler or reader as a 3G person.”
