More Elderly Americans Turning To Social Networking
Social networking is not just for the young at heart as it appears that more older people are beginning to take notice.

According to a new report released by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, the number of Americans over the age of 50 turning to social networking has doubled over the last year.

More older people are using social networking sites daily to keep track of their friends, and to also keep tabs of what their own families are up too.

In April last year, the report found that 22% of people aged 50 or older used social networking sites, with this number jumping to 42% this past April.

When it comes to the demographic with the most social networking experience, it remains people between the ages of 18 and 29 at an astounding 86 percent.

“There are few other spaces — online or offline — where tweens, teens, sandwich generation members, grandparents, friends and neighbors regularly intersect
and communicate across the same network,” said Mary Madden, Pew senior research specialist and author of the report.
