Rooster Kills California Man In A Cockfight

A California man was murdered by a rooster on January 30th in a cockfight gone bad. Jose Luis Ochoa was participating in an illegal cockfight near Bakersfield when a rooster with knives taped to its leg attacked him. The rooster managed to slice open Ochoa’s leg.

Cockfighting generally involves two roosters fighting each other to the death or until one is severely injured. The sport is deemed inhumane because of the treatment of the animals involved.

Participating or watching a cockfight is illegal and a person can be fined. In fact, Ochoa had been fined in the past for owning and/or training an animal to participate in a fight.

Police received an anonymous tip about the illegal activity and arrived on the scene to find the bleeding Ochoa. Ochoa was transported to a hospital where doctors worked to stop the bleeding.

The doctors were unsuccessful and Ochoa died.
