Today, February 17, 2012, marks the 476th anniversary of the execution of Anne Boleyn, Queen of England, at the command of her husband, King Henry VIII.
Time has still not conclusively explained why her husband and King ordered her execution and conspiracy theories abound from Thomas Crowley to all manner of lasciviousness.
The lovely paramour of the King was only 35 years old at the time of her execution at the infamous Tower of London. She had served as queen only sixteen months. King Henry sought her affections for seven years until he was able to win her hand in marriage.
However, in the end, the second wife of the King met an ignominious death for a queen and earned her mark in history.
