Nanny Indicated in the Stabbing Death of 2 Children

The Nanny for an NYC family is being indicated in the stabbing deaths of two of the children she cared for. Yoselyn Ortega, 50, was alone with two children, Lucia, 6, and Leo, 2, when the stabbings occured.

The Children’s mother returned home from a swimming lesson with a third child to find the children in the bathtub stabbed. The nanny was found on the floor of the kitchen. She was rushed to the hospital where she remains in critical, but stable condition; a kitchen knife was found nearby.

Friends and neighbors say the woman had no history mental illness.

“I’m in shock. It’s out of this world. There was nothing to make me think she would do this. Nothing,” said Marcelina Lovera, a neighbor who lived in the same Harlem apartment building where Ortega and her son resided.

Police now believe that Ortega is responsible for the stabbings; although no files have been charged. The Children’s father, a CNBC executive, was not in the state at the time of the stabbings. He was flown back to New York and reunited with his family Thursday evening.

Both children were pronounced dead at the Hospital from stab wounds. The nanny had been working for the family for roughly one year without any indication of past problems or current issues.

Neighbors described the Krims as a vibrant, happy family.

“Young family. Busy family. Parties all the time and they have friends coming over,” Klein said.

“A member of the CNBC family has suffered an unimaginable loss. The sadness that we all feel for Kevin, Marina and their family is without measure. Our thoughts, prayers and unwavering support are with them all, Comcast and NBC Universal said in a statement Friday morning.
