11-year-old Harper Gruzins from Coppell, Texas, was supposed to be basking in the spotlight following her first major singing engagement.
Before a crowd of 22,000 at a Major League Soccer match between the FC Dallas and the Los Angeles Galaxy, Gruzins delivered the national anthem, reports the Daily Mail.
However, Gruzins, who is known for being able to warble or carry a note, seemed to languish through the national anthem.
Singing for roughly three minutes in what appeared to be a labored voice, she sang what some critics are calling the worst rendition of the national anthem. By comparison, she is said to have surpassed Aerosmith lead vocalist Steve Tyler who was roundly criticized for his performance. Gruzins is also said to have beat out Cristina Aguilera who tried to warble her way unsuccessfully through the anthem.
The one performance she has not yet been compared to is Rosanne Barr’s “creature screecher” performance before the Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres nearly 23 years ago. It is true that Gruzins has received her fair share of criticism over her handling of the song, but Rosanne Barr drew a rebuke from the highest office of the land with sitting President George H. W. Bush calling it “disgraceful”.
is this the worst National Anthem ever? Judge for yourself.
