Wisconsin Dells shooting

A terrifying YouTube video appears to show a man getting shot by Wisconsin police. The man is believed to be the suspect in a fatal highway shooting of a Chicago-area woman.

“Someone just got shot in the middle of the interstate,” Joel Graves says in the video, which was posted Sunday. Graves continue to record while driving by the scene, and a man can be seen laying down on the highway.

Earlier Sunday, Tracy Czaczkowski, 44, and her family were heading home to Buffalo Grove from Wisconsin Dells when police say three shots were fired at their car on Interstate 90-94 near Lake Delton. One of the bullets fatally hit Czaczkowski in the neck. Her husband and two children weren’t hurt.

Police chased the suspect for nearly 20 miles before stopping the car, shooting him in the shoulder when he refused to surrender.

Suspect Zachary T. Hays, 20, of West Allis, Wis., remains in UW Hospital while authorities are “continuing to investigate collaboratively to determine what charges will be referred to the respective District Attorneys,” a statement from the Dane County Sheriff’s Department said.

“There’s a guy walking in the middle of the highway. Oh, he just got shot. Somebody just got shot in the middle of the interstate.”

His brother, Jeremy A. Hays, age 30, is being held on a tentative charge of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. A 34-year-old brother is not being named due to his cognitive disability.

Czaczkowski’s brother released a statement Tuesday after the DEA took over the investigation. The family has set up a GoFundMe page.

“We are immensely appreciative of what the Agency is doing for Greg and the children,” he said.

He said Czaczkowski is one of seven siblings, and they are still making their way from various states.

“We are all extremely proud of what Tracy accomplished in life, the wonderful family she created and the joy she brought to everyone around her. We ask for prayers for her loving husband and children,” her brother said.

The video posted on YouTube shows the moment Wisconsin police shot the alleged gunman. Driver Joel Graves was talking to his wife as he recorded the madness so many other families saw that day.
