European honeybee virus A study led by an international team of scientists, including the University of Sheffield, has found that the European honeybee is the source of the Deformed Wing Virus, which is affecting hives worldwide. The finding also suggests that the pandemic is manmade rather than naturally occurring, with human trade and transportation of bees for crop pollination driving the spread.
