Usually it is the victim of a robbery who frantically calls 911 to request police assistance at the scene.
But in the case of John Davidson III, it was the robbery suspect himself who dialed 911 after he was shot by a store clerk while trying to rob a grocery store in Kannapolis, NC, a suburb of Charlotte.
When Davidson entered the store and demanded that the female clerk give him all the money in the store register, she reached instead for her gun and shot Davidson in the leg and in the torso.
Davidson managed to make it out of the store and collapsed in some nearby bushes before calling 911 and admitting that he was the thief that had just tried to rob the Bethpage Grocery and had been shot by the store clerk.
Police arrested Davidson at the scene and transported him to the local medical center to attend to his wounds. He will be charged with both robbery and assault.
