A fisherman got more than he bargained for when he reeled in the biggest catch of his life; the surprise was not the size of the fish but rather the prosthetic limb of a fellow angler.
The prosthetic arm belongs to Jack Wiseman, an amateur fisherman, participated in the Tarpon Tournament Series at Boca Raton Grande Pass. Wiseman was once belonged to the armed services.
The limb losing incident happened as a result of Wiseman losing the battle against the feisty fish. He recalls the experience: “And all of a sudden the hand snapped off the prosthetic device, still hooked to the rod, and the rod and the reel and the hand went down into the water.”
Rudy Salas witnessed the incident: “We watched it happen and we said, ‘Did you see that? His arm’s gone.'”
Fortunately for Wiseman the fish was caught by a fellow angler along with his prosthetic arm still attached.
