A retail manager at a seafood restaurant in Mansfeild, Mass. found something odd.
While unpacking a 20-crate shipment he found five orange lobers.
He thought maybe it was a practicaljoke — that perhaps someone had placed 5 cooked lobers in the crate.
it turned out, they were a one in more than 10 million find, according to marine experts.
The chances of finding an orange lobster are in the ballpark of one in 10 million, according to Tony LaCasse, a spokesman for the New England Aquarium.
“One in 10 million? It doesn’t get much better than that,” Sarro said. “It has been unbelievable.”
Fresh Catch, owner Bill Sarro said since the strange discovery, he’s been bombarded with attention.
“They were filming a movie with Kate Winslet a mile away, but more people came here,” said Sarro. “It’s great for business.”
According to the University of Maine’s Lobster Institute, there are some colors that are even rarer.
The chances of catching a yellow lobster are one in 30 million. And you’re really lucky to grab an albino one.
That has a one in 100 million chance.
The lobsters are still alive and being kept in the store’s tank.
