Husband combs landfill to find lost ring
A Florida woman owes a lot to her husband after he dug through a landfill to find her engagement ring, reports ABC News.
Anna McGuinn of Margate, Florida, had removed her $10,000 custom engagement ring on Halloween night and asked her husband, Brian, to put it away for her.
The ring was accidentally thrown away instead, and the trash had been picked up before the McGuinns realized the mistake.
“I was saying to myself, ‘OK, no one died, get a grip,’” Anna McGuinn said. “Then I started crying again.”
The couple contacted the garbage processing company, and a representative said they would allow a search for the ring.
Anna was pregnant, so Brian dressed in a protective suit and searched through a 10 foot tall garbage pile with the help of workers.
After hours of searcing, Brian saw Anna’s yogurt cup from the night before and knew where to focus his efforts.
“My husband, Bill, picked up a paper towel like this, and the ring dropped right on the floor, right by my feet,” said Joan Sawyer.
“I don’t know who was more excited, Joan and I, or the folks here,” said Bill Sawyer.
“You could almost see the tears in her eyes; she was thrilled she found it. And then everyone who helped out, they were just happy they got to see how happy she was and we were happy we could help them out,” said Ken Nydam of Covanta.
She vowed never to take it off again.
