Robbers in Need of Rescue

Two young British men have learned a hard lesson: if you are going to commit a crime, it helps to have a good escape plan.

Lewis Morgan, 18, and a 17-year-old accomplice – whose name has not been released due to his age – stole a cell phone and a laptop from a woman in a train station in Birmingham, England.

Then, according to PC Kieron Davies of the West Midlands Police Department, who tracked the suspects with the help of his police dog, the pair jumped 20 feet down an embankment near the railroad tracks and became stranded on the riverbank.

It took the local fire department half an hour to lift them out with a hydraulic winch, after which police promptly arrested them.

Both youths pled guilty at the Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday. Morgan was sentenced to 16 months in a youth offenders’ facility while his underage accomplice received a youth rehabilitation order.
