Disney Kicks Off Summer Season with 24 Hours of Park Access

Disney has started off the 2013 summer season in grand style with patrons getting a chance to party all night long with 24 hours of park access from starting 6:00AM Friday, May 24, until the same time the following day.

The special access applies to their “Magical Kingdom” theme parks, Disney California Adventure Park, and Disney Land Park. Disney theme parks in both Florida and California took part in the special promotion.

A special theme designed around the “Monsters” film franchise awaited guests which covered both food and merchandise to promote the upcoming “Monsters University” movie release. In Florida, the characters James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski (played by John Goodman and Billy Crystal in the film) participated in the “Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade” as the Grand Marshalls.

The two had previously helped open up the park for the 24-hour festivities.

In California, patrons were treated to a parade featuring a special float with characters from the upcoming “Monsters University” film. Also, Disney California Adventure had special “Monsters” dorm rooms built for the occasion.

However, “Monsters University” wasn’t the only thing to bask in the spot light.

In California, a new stage show debuted called “Mickey and the Magic Map”. Also, for the brief run the Cinderella Castle has been re-purposed to give patrons a ride down memory lane with memorable scenes from other Disney classics such as “The Little Mermaid”, “Lilo and Stitch”, the ever-lovable Goofy. Monsters University will be out in movie theaters nationwide on June 21.

Disneyland spokeswoman Suzi Brown told KTLA extra precautions had been made for the 2013 event, such as bringing in extra police officers and requiring staff to park off-site. Annual pass holders were also asked to carpool, she said.

“We worked really well with the city of Anaheim this year and traffic control to help mitigate all those problems,” Brown told the television station. “We’re fully staffed in our parking lots just to ensure that guests get in and to the park as quickly as possible.”

According to the LA Times, the crowds are loving the new promotion. Scores of visitors camped outside the park gates as early as Thursday.

“You meet friends, you meet new people from all over the world and you get to create experiences you couldn’t ever do at any other place except Disney,” Victor Serrano told KTLA from the front of the line.
