I too find this offensive but since I’ve work in the service industry I’m pretty sure that he would have made similar remarks about anyone regardless of race if he didn’t get the amount that was in his head. With a small order like one pizza the driver was probably moaning to himself before the actual tip was given.
My bigger gripe is with tipping becoming part of the “give me money” entitlement mentality. It used to be for service above and beyond normal but it’s turned into a requirement for even bad service. First it was 10%, than 15% and now 20% and as you can see in this article that isn’t even enough. When you make your living off of tips of course you like big tips but you shouldn’t expect them. I gave my best service to every customer every time and appreciated whatever I got, the big tips made up for the non tippers.
Another problem is with tip income surpassing wages. In my business you couldn’t even give someone paid time off because they didn’t want to lose their tips.
