Pot Mom Released on 500,000 Dollar Bond
Andrea Sanderlin, the New York mother now known as “Pot Mom,” has been released from jail on a 500,000 dollar bond. This happened despite her secrecy and the concerns of the judge. To remain free, she must collect signatures from her mother and other relatives by Wednesday.
Judge Steven M. Gold, of the Brooklyn Federal Court, is quoted as saying the following. “For all I know, she has millions of dollars or she could have a couple hundred dollars.
She hasn’t worked, but she’s living in Scarsdale and driving a Mercedes. I can’t add that up.”
For now, however, Andrea is just happy to be home with her daughters, ranging in age from three to 13. The family has been separated since May when the Drug Enforcement Agency concluded a week of surveillance by raiding a warehouse and found an elaborate grow house with ventilation, lighting and irrigation systems that are state-of-the-art.
They also found 2,800 plants and several hundred pounds of dried marijuana. The set up was worth over three million dollars.
The 45 year old mother of three has pled not guilty to charges including manufacturing and possessing marijuana with intent to distribute and operating a drug premises.
CNN describes the crime scene:
Police said they followed Sanderlin, 45, to a warehouse in Queens that was registered in her name. They found two rooms packed with more than 1,000 marijuana plants and large amounts of dried marijuana, along with state-of-the-art lighting, irrigation and ventilation systems to facilitate hydroponic growing, according to court documents.
“The warehouse was filled with over $3 million worth of hydroponic marijuana, and the organization covertly produced 3,000 marijuana plants,’ said Brian Crowell, special agent with the Drug Enforcement Agency. He added that a raid of the pot mom’s New York home turned up books on how to grow marijuana and launder money.
As a condition of her release, the pot mom must remain in the New York City apartment of her children’s grandparents and stay under electronic monitoring.
The pot mom is due back in New York court on July 15.
