Football’s Big News: A 400-Pound High School Running Back

Tony Picard may still only be in high school, but he has the physique of a fully grown man — times two. At 6’4″ and 400 pounds, Picard is kind of a big deal — especially ever since he began playing football for his school’s team, The White Swan Cougars at White Swan High School in Washington, as a running back.

Indian Country Today Media Network, has compared Picard to ‘William (The Refrigerator) Perry,’ the 6’2″ 335-pound former pro football player for the Chicago Bears. The difference between the two big guys, however, is that Picard is even bigger, and he’s not in college yet. Regardless, he’s still very much a threat on the field.

“It’s so much fun to have him go out, as a captain, and see him shaking hands before the game,” said the White Swan’s coach, Andrew Bush. “They’re just kind of staring like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’ve got to be kidding me!'”

The 400-pound running back‘s size doesn’t just intimidate his opponents, but it translates into reputable stats as well.

“Most teams will sacrifice five guys to stop him,” Bush said. “Four linemen and a middle linebacker. We average about 450 yards as a team offensively.”

According to The Daily Mail, Picard started out as a lineman but When he switched him to running back, Coach Bush gave Picard two instructions: average 4 yards per carry and don’t fumble. In the first 10 games this season, he has averaged about 5 yards per carry.

‘Most teams will sacrifice five guys to stop him: four linemen and a middle linebacker. That leaves three guys on each side to stop the rest of our team,’ Bush says. ‘Everything else opens up: our outside running, our play action, and our entire passing game. We average about 450 yards as a team offensively.’

‘I kind of make a path for the smaller guys to score and serve as a decoy,’ Picard says. Despite being a decoy, he has been running for about 80-120 yards per game, and usually scores a touchdown or two.

Picard has run for over 700 yards and 15 touchdowns this season,

The video you see above was brought to eCanadaNow’s attention by USA Today, and it is absolutely spectacular. Throughout a series of highlights, the 6-foot-5, 400-pound Picard runs over defensive linemen like a tractor. It’s not that the White Swan High (Yakima) senior is particularly fast, he’s just completely impossible to bring down, and has some agility to boot.
