Sian Green, the British tourist who lost her leg during a visit to New York City when a taxi cab jumped the curb and slammed into her, is suing the Big Apple for millions of dollars.
Green was minding her own business and calmly eating a hot dog on the sidewalk when a cab driven by Mohammed Himon lost control and crashed into her, resulting in the amputation of one of her legs. The cab driver had already accumulated enough points on his driving record to cause the suspension of his license to operate a taxi and Green’s lawyer contends that the city didn’t do enough to ensure that this dangerous driver was already off of the road when the accident took place earlier this year.
Green is a former winning beauty contestant who wants $27.5 million from New York to compensate her for the loss of one of her limbs. Himon contends that a passing cyclist got in his way and he put his foot on the cab’s gas pedal in order to avoid hitting the rider, causing the vehicle to jump the curb and slam directly into tourist Green. Himon was briefly suspended but has since resumed driving his cab.
