Pregnant Woman Murder: Man Faces Death Penalty for Murder of Wife and Unborn Child
Cypress Creek, Texas – A 28-year-old man by the name of Matthew Sowders is being charged with the murder of his estranged wife Melissa Sowders and her unborn child and faces the death penalty.
According to The Examiner, the couple shared three children together, but were separated. Mrs. Sowders had filed for divorce in October and was now in a relationship with another man by the name of Jason Sanford. She was expecting his child.
On December 26, Mrs. Sowders was last seen at a McDonald’s restaurant with her husband. A neighbor recalls showing up at her home to visit her and finding her husband there to answer the door. In addition, the neighbor says she saw a woman’s feet and legs on the floor at which time Matthew Sowders closed the door on her.
Police finally conducted a search on the property and found Mrs. Sowders body from a creek behind her residence. It took a team of divers to locate her. Once the body was found, police went to the home of Matthew Sowders parents where he was staying and arrested him in the driveway. Police are so certain that he killed his wife that they filed the capitol murder charges before the coroner has determined the cause of death. Mr. Sowders pleads innocent to the charges.
