Actor John Belushi’s Last Meal
West Hollywood, California – Actor and comedian John Belushi did tragically at the young age of 33 from what was officially declared to be drug-related activity. He had taken what is known as a speedball (a mix of heroin and cocaine). He had purchased it the day before his death using funds he borrowed from his manager under the pretext of wanting to secure Rock legend Bill Haley’s guitar. Belushi himself had achieved commercial success with his group “The Blues Brothers” in the late 1970s. He enjoyed a lentil soup and that turned out to be last meal. He died not long after passing out after taking a second speedball.
At the particular time of his life, he was eager to score another film role and enlisted to star in a film called “National Lampoon’s Joy of Sex”. His friend Dan Aykroyd was also in the meeting and plead with him not to accept the role. In fact, Aykroyd was working on a new script for a film of his own which he intended to feature Belushi as well. The film would be released in the summer of 1984 and prove to be the smash hit of the season. It was called Ghostbusters which went on to gross $291 million on a budget of $30 million.
Oddly enough, Belushi had made a cameo appearance in the sitcom “Police Squad!” where he was filmed lying face down in pool as the result of a drowning. It was intended to be comedic, but his untimely death cast a pall over the scene and it was cut out of the episode before it aired. The sequence has never been seen by the public and is believed to be lost. He was also set to present an award at the upcoming Oscars only four weeks ago.
